Avifauna
on trail of Triund
While we were climbing down from
Magic View Café, we noticed some movement in grass by the side of the rocks and
on close observation noticed a pair of cute birds camouflaged in the color of
grass (faint red brown) and the rocks (pale grey).
We hushed and took a few shots and
later searched in Google the list of Avifauna of Himachal and found our birds
in list titled as, “Alpine Accentor”.
There are 8 species found in India
out of 13 species found Worldwide. They are apparently similar to sparrows and
small, fairly drab species come from the family of Prunellidae. It is a native
bird of bare mountain areas with little vegetation. Alpine Accentor somewhat
resemble a House Sparrow with a streaked brown back. Adult Alpine Accentor have
grey head with red-brown spotting on the under parts or belly.
Mostly found in Palearctic Ecozones,
which consist of the earthly eco-regions of Europe, in Asia the foothills
of northern Himalayas, northern Africa, and the northern and central parts of
the Arabian Peninsula. The Palearctic or Palaearctic is one of
the eight ecozones separating the surface of the Earth. Actually, the
Palearctic is the prime ecozones.
On our next trek to Triund, we will
add more on Avifauna of this region.
